As construction work gradually progresses to the east with the city of Emporia’s 24th and Prairie water main replacement project, there is related work taking place on the west edge of the work zone.
City Communications Manager Christine Torrens says the city’s contractor will close the Industrial Road entrance street to the Pavilions Shopping Center at 24th and Industrial on Wednesday so crews can connect a waterline to the existing main. The process, including connection, paving and concrete curing, will take up to two weeks.
The east entrance to the Pavilions on 24th will remain open during that process.
24th is currently closed to thru traffic from the Presbyterian Manor east drive to Apple Lane and Sunset Lake Drive. It is closed altogether between Apple Lane/Sunset Lake Drive and Prairie Street.
Work is progressing eastward to the 24th and Prairie intersection. Work will then continue south to 12th over the next year or so.
