A new program to provide needed relief for caregivers of loved ones battling cognitive decline is launching later this week at the Emporia Senior Center.
The center will host its first Brain Break on Friday from 10 am to noon. Brain Break Friday is a cooperative program organized between the senior center, Flint Hills Dementia Support Group and Newman Regional Health Volunteers.
Erin Blocker of the Flint Hills Dementia Support Group says the program is designed to provide activities for cognitive decline patients and give their caregivers a small break. Blocker stressed that caregivers should not feel guilty about needing a “breather” now and then.
Senior Center Director Carla Fessler agreed with Blocker’s sentiment.
Brain Break Fridays will run every Friday at the Senior Center from 10 am to noon, including supervised activities, optional lunches, and more. If you would like more information on the program find the Emporia Senior Center on Facebook, call 620-343-3160 or stop by the center at 603 East 12th Avenue.
