Jobless rates are up locally, areawide and statewide from May to June, but Kansas Labor Secretary Amber Schulz says there was some good news in the latest monthly report.
Schulz says average wages and buying power have both increased.
Emporia’s jobless rate went from an even 3 percent to 3.8 percent, while Lyon County went from 3.1 to 3.7 percent.
Area counties all had increases month-to-month, from 0.1 percent in Wabaunsee County to 0.6 percent in Coffey County. Morris County has the area’s lowest jobless rate at 3 percent. Coffey County has the area high at 4.2 percent.
Statewide, the jobless rate went from 2.9 to 3.1 percent.
