Lyon and most surrounding counties are in a severe thunderstorm watch until 1 am Thursday. Wind gusts up to 80 mph and hail up to 2 inches in diameter are the main concerns, although an isolated tornado now can’t be ruled out.
Areas north of a Cassoday-to-Madison-to-Burlington line are in a slight severe weather risk through early Thursday, an upgrade over the areawide marginal risk in effect for most of Wednesday. The marginal risk remains in place for areas south of the aforementioned line.

6:15 pm Wednesday: Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Morris and Wabaunsee County through early Thursday morning
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for a portion of the KVOE listening area.
The watch affects Morris and Wabaunsee counties until 1 am Thursday. The watch comes with the majority of Wabaunsee in a slight risk area for severe activity along with the northwestern portion of Morris County.
Meanwhile, a marginal risk covers the southern portions of Morris and Wabaunsee counties, all of Lyon, Chase and Osage counties and the majority of Greenwood and Coffey counties. The southern edges of both Greenwood and Coffey are clear of any risk as of now.
The main concerns with any storms that develop will be damaging winds between 60 to 70 mph and hail up to one inch in diameter. The most likely timeframe for development will be between 10 pm and 4 am.
