The Boys and Girls Club of South Central Kansas has announced a significant fee increase is coming this year for all locations they serve, including USD 253 Emporia Public Schools.
According to B&G of South Central Kansas Vice President of Marketing and Development Ashley Hatman, the organization will decrease its annual membership fee from $100 to $50. However; the organization will also add a monthly $60 fee raising the club’s participation fee from $100 to $650 annually.
Hatman tells KVOE News the increase is largely the result of changes in funding.
On a bright note, Hatman says despite the increase, recent data shows they’re still one of the more affordable options for after-school programming compared to other clubs and similar organizations across the state. Additionally, Hatman tells KVOE News there will also be a pair of financial aids available to qualifying families that will hopefully lessen the impact of the increase.
The Boys and Girls Club of South Central Kansas has provided after-school programming for students of USD 253 Emporia since the fall of 2022. The club replaced the Emporia Recreation Commission’s RecXtra program which had handled afterschool programming for 12 years prior.
The club currently provides programming for six Emporia elementary schools, Timmerman, Riverside, Walnut, Village, Logan Avenue and William Allen White. For more information or questions about the program visit Bgcsck.org or call 316-889-5406.
