The first class of the Civic Leadership Institute will celebrate its accomplishments Tuesday.
A celebration for the class of 18 participants who went through the 9-week institute will take place at Casa Ramos.
Special Projects Director Tayler Wash says she started researching possibilities for the institute soon after being hired.
Participants learned from every aspect of city government, ranging from talking to City Manager Trey Cocking, to learning from each department like Finance, Public Works, and City Engineering.
Wash says she’s already receiving interest from participants for next year’s class. Wash says she wants to make the class a staple in the community with next year’s class having a few tweaks, but the overall curriculum will be the same.
Wash says to stay tuned to the City of Emporia’s Social Media channels when signing up for the next civic leadership institute, which is Wash’s goal to begin next May.
