Advanced voter turnout came in well under expectations according to Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat.
Vopat reported to KVOE News that a total of 767 voters took advantage of advance voting opportunities over the last month including in-office voting which concluded at noon Monday. This reflects a less than four percent voter turnout, well below the 20 percent Vopat was hoping for.
Residents who didn’t take part in the advance vote process are encouraged to get out and cast their ballot Tuesday for the primary election. Mail ballot voters can still turn in their ballots at their county courthouses — or they can have them mailed and postmarked by Tuesday — for those votes to count.
The primary election is from 7 am to 7 pm Tuesday across Kansas. Vopat says her staff gets occasional questions and concerns about election integrity, an ongoing discussion point nationally after the results of the presidential election.
She hopes the local questions will subside soon because of the work her staff does in that regard.
For Lyon and surrounding counties, KVOE will have complete election coverage, including results and candidate reactions, beginning shortly after the polls close Tuesday evening. You can also get more information about the different races, polling places and more election information on the KVOE.com Voter Information Guide provided by Community National Bank.
