The Emporia City Commission could have a new member by the end of its regular action meeting Wednesday morning.
Commissioners will review a list of candidates seeking to fill the seat left by longtime commissioner Danny Giefer who passed away last month. Commissioners have ten candidates who have expressed interest in the position.
Each candidate will have two minutes to make a speech with questions from City staff to follow. Once all candidates have spoken, commissioners will have three rounds of voting to select a new commissioner.
If a consensus cannot be reached then, the matter will be tabled and revisited at the commission’s next regular meeting on August 21.
The list of candidates includes:
*Aaron Larson
*Bryce Heitman
*Deon Morrow
*Joe Reed
*Kenton Thomas
*Lucas Moody
*Michael Mercer
*Rebecca Douglass
*Tyler Curtis
*Will Spencer
In other business, commissioners will hold a public hearing to establish the Gazette Building collective as a Reinvestment Housing Incentive District and adopt a development agreement for the project. Other action items will include an award agreement for the CCLIP surface preservation project, the adoption of standard traffic ordinances and the adoption of uniform offense code.
A 30-minute executive session is also planned.
Following the action meeting, commissioners will recess to Conference Room 1AB for their regular study session. Items up for discussion include budget matters, animal code updates and the common consumption area.
The meetings will begin inside of the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium at 11 am.
