One of two Lyon County flee and elude cases approaching a possible trial date may be headed in another direction instead, while the other one is being delayed for another reason altogether.
Julio Blanco-Godoy was tentatively set for trial to begin as soon as this upcoming Monday, but defense attorney Rick Meier said Blanco-Godoy will apply for diversion during a trial status hearing Wednesday. Judge Lee Fowler then reset the trial status hearing date to this upcoming Wednesday, with trial still possible Aug. 19.
Blanco-Godoy faces single counts of flee and elude, DUI, reckless driving, driving while suspended, interference with law enforcement and circumvention of an ignition interlock device after an alleged incident on New Year’s Day.
Separately, trial was set to begin Monday in the case against Wilver Sandoval — but he failed to appear for his final pretrial Wednesday, so trial could begin either Aug. 19 or Sept. 3.
Sandoval is charged with flee and elude, interference with law enforcement and driving while suspended after an alleged incident Feb. 7.
