Staff and leadership of SOS welcomed the local community to a special celebration at the Jones Aquatic Center Thursday evening.
SOS hosted a pool party at the JAC in recognition of the 25th anniversary of its Child Visitation and Exchange Center. The center is a safe space allowing supervised visits and monitored exchanges between children and parents in “challenging circumstances.”
SOS Executive Director Mickey Edwards, a recent guest of KVOE’s Talk of Emporia, says a pool party seemed like the perfect fit to celebrate the center’s impact and history in the community.
CVEC is one of four programs under the SOS umbrella and is the only center within a 60-mile radius according to Center Director Tara Schnakenberg. Schnakenberg says she is proud of the center’s impact on families across the area.
According to Schnakenberg, throughout its 25-year history, the center has provided 13,000 supervised visits and nearly 14,000 exchanges without any security incident.
