Lyon County commissioners approved purchases designed to help replace a collapsed bridge.
Commissioners approved a better than $200,000 bid from Oden Enterprises for structural steel beams, as well as a related bid of nearly $60,000 from Welbourn Sales for H piling. County Engineer Chip Woods says work on Road 170 over Dry Creek just west of Neosho Rapids is still a ways off.
The bridge collapsed in early February after heavy rainfall.
Woods says several other bridge projects will benefit from these purchases. The list is not immediately available.
In other business, commissioners approved the construction engineering inspection services contract between the county, Kansas Department of Transportation and Kirkham Michael for the county’s upcoming High Risk Rural Road repair project on Road F between Americus and US Highway 56.
Separately, commissioners approved the Lyon County Area Transportation Title VI complaint procedures and limited English proficiency plan after a review during Wednesday’s study meeting. They also approved a significant increase in bandwidth from the Courthouse to the Highway Department .The increase from 50 megabytes to 1,000 megabytes will help speed up daily and weekly information backup procedures.
