Emporia Fire says there was minimal damage after a house fire Thursday night.
Fire crews were dispatched to 311 West Ninth after a fire was reported shortly before 9:30 pm, and they found heavy smoke coming from the back door of the two-story home. Early indications are the fire started in the basement and traveled up an electric line to damage some furniture. The fire was contained to the back doorway and wall in the basement.
The cause is currently under investigation. No injuries were reported. Americus and Olpe firefighters were called in as mutual aid.
