Late summer and early fall is typically a time when illnesses spike, and there has been increased COVID-19 activity this month.

Nationally, test positivity percentages for COVID have been increasing for months and is now at 18.1 percent. The percentage is slightly higher at 18.8 percent for Kansas.
Less than 2 percent of COVID diagnoses in Kansas are leading to emergency room visits. The state’s hospitalization rate now is about four per 100,000 people.
Meanwhile, flu vaccines will become more readily available through mid-September. Flu activity is currently low nationwide but spikes by November or December and can last as long as May.
