The Flint Hills have been part of the local Humane Society’s name for years. Now that Prairie Paws has taken over operations of the Emporia Animal Shelter, the Humane Society says it’s free to serve a wider area than just Lyon County.
The Humane Society held a community meeting recently to get feedback on what residents areawide need when it comes to pet care. Board President Lori DeWinkler says several items came to the forefront.
Besides community members, the meeting also included representatives of several other local pet welfare groups, including Buffy Animal Welfare and Street Cats Club. Prairie Paws local manager Bailey Estes also attended.
The Humane Society is looking to hold community meetings monthly until further notice, and it has several public events coming, including its Bow Wow Basics dog training series, pet food and straw giveaways and discount vaccination clinics. The popular doghouse builds may return to the community calendar as well.
