The 2024 season for Northern Heights will be a new one in two different capacities.
In September of 2023, the USD 251 North Lyon County Board of Education voted unanimously to move Northern Heights from 11-man to 8-man in football. During that same meeting, board members also voted unanimously for Northern Heights to depart the Flint Hills League and enter the Lyon County League. Northern Heights’ addition to the Lyon County League came as Southern Coffey County departed the league after the 2023-24 academic year and joined the Twin Rivers League in Southeast Kansas.
Peyton Heins will guide the Wildcats in his second year. The Wildcats have four seniors with most of them being linemen. Heins said the Wildcats have five to six juniors who have played at the varsity level as skill players.
The Wildcats will be an 8-man Division I school playing in District 2 featuring Flinthills, Madison, Yates Center, Chase County and Lyndon. Northern Heights will be tested out of the gates facing Burlingame (Sept. 6) and Lebo (Sept. 13) at home and traveling to Hartford (Sept. 20) before opening district play at Flinthills (Sept. 27).
Northern Heights will be featured three times on KVOE’s Area Game of the Week with home games against Lebo (Sept. 13) and Madison (Oct. 4) and at Chase County (Oct. 18).
