The Emporia High boys soccer team might be young this fall but have experience returning.
Emporia High finished the 2023 season with a 10-8 record after falling to Newton in a Class 5A regional championship game in penalty kicks. The Spartans graduated nine seniors but have 18 returners with significant playing time.
Sophomore Brayden Sailer is one key returner and is one of 25 players to watch in Class 5A according to KSHSAA Covered. Sailer said the Spartans might have graduated some key pieces, but they have other players to fill the void.
Junior Kevin Magana is another key returner back and is also a player to watch in Class 5A according to KSHSAA Covered. Magana said he’s excited for the new season.
Emporia High coach Victor Ibarra is feeling good returners he has back for this season.
Emporia High opens up at Seaman on Tuesday. The Spartans’ first home match will be on Sept. 17 when they host Hayden.
