Emporia High junior Elise Eckert began her season in the best way possible.
Eckert won the EHS Invitational on Tuesday at Emporia Golf Course with an even-par 71, winning the tournament by 11 strokes. Eckert also set a school record with the round. Eckert said it was a great way to start the year.
Kelsey Shull finished 21st with a 121. Emporia High did not field a full team with Eckert and Shull being the two Lady Spartans to play in the tournament. The Lady Spartans have four golfers out, including Eckert and Shull. Lya Orzoco and Clara Heitman round out the lineup. Emporia High coach Rick Eckert said improvement in the short game will be key during September.
Emporia High is next in action next Tuesday at Salina Central.
