The Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Department has announced two notable grants for its operations.
Fire Chief Greg Zumbrunn says District 5 has received a Federal Assistance to Firefighters grant worth almost $34,000. This will help the department buy 10 sets of structural firefighting gear and seven sets of wildland gear, thus replacing some equipment that’s over 20 years old — well beyond the recommended replacement time of 10 years. Zumbrunn says the grant is “highly competitive,” with only eight going to Kansas fire departments this year.
Zumbrunn also says District 5 got a $15,000 grant through Frontier Farm Credit to buy two remote monitors for grass trucks. Zumbrunn says the joystick-operated monitors help with safety and effectiveness, especially in cases where only one volunteer can respond. With this grant and another from last year, all the district’s grass trucks will have remote monitors.
