The Emporia State tennis teams opened up their seasons this weekend with the Hornet men hosting the George Milton Chicken Dinner Invitational on Saturday and Sunday while the Lady Hornets played Friday and Saturday at the Rumble by the River hosted by Northeastern State. The ESU women finished 18-15 over the weekend highlighted by Anastasia Pesic and Paige Stranghoner finishing undefeated. The men’s weekend was highlighted by Mostafa Elbasnaly who won twice Sunday to win his flight as did Diego Calvo for the Hornets. MIAA member Newman was in the field as was Barton Community College, & Bethel College. The ESU women return to action September 20 at the ITA Fall Regional while the men’s fall regional will be the following weekend in Topeka hosted by Washburn.
