The 2024 Kansas High School Rodeo Association Lyon County Showdown is now underway.
The event kicked off Saturday morning and will continue through Sunday at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. Preparations have been underway for the event the past several weeks according to arena manager and Lyon County Fair Board member Brody Peak.
He tells KVOE News a lot of effort goes into making the rodeo a memorable event for all of the competitors.
Sunday’s activities will begin at 9 am at the grandstands arena. Once the Lyon County Showdown wraps up, fair board members won’t have much time to rest as yet another rodeo is heading to town next week.
Emporia will be playing host to the 2024 Manhattan high school rodeo which had to be moved due to ongoing repair work at the Manhattan arena. Peak says for Emporia to be chosen as the new host site for the event is an honor and says a lot about the community.
