The Emporia State volleyball team went 3-0 at the Tiger Classic by picking up a pair of wins Saturday. ESU started the day with a 25-16, 27-25, 25-23 decision over Colorado-Colorado Springs. ESU used an 8-0 run to take control of the first set before a 10-3 run helped ESU come from behind in the second set. ESU hit .312 against the Mountain Lions with Weronika Wrzesinska leading E-State with 13 kills and five blocks.
ESU returned to action Saturday afternoon and dominated Northwestern Oklahoma State in a 25-17, 25-16, 25-18 victory to move to 6-1 on the year. ESU held the Rangers to just .043 hitting in the first set. The Lady Hornets wrapped up the tournament with a 9-0 run to end the match. Zuzanna Buchnajzer led the Black & Gold with 12 kills while Wrzesinska and McKenya Sorrells each had three aces.
ESU’s 6-1 start is the best for the Lady Hornets since the 2013 season. ESU is back on the road at the PSU Regional Challenge in Pittsburg, Kan. ESU opens up the event facing Illinois-Springfield Thursday, September 19.
