An Emporia man facing human trafficking and other abuse charges will return to Lyon County District Court next month.
Russell Paul Patterson Jr waived his preliminary hearing Thursday, setting up a pretrial and arraignment Oct. 25. Defense attorney Rand Simmons tried unsuccessfully to have Judge Jeff Larson modify bond.
Patterson is charged with aggravated trafficking, rape and commercial exploitation after an alleged incident in late July. Patterson is a former Emporia Police officer, but the alleged activity happened well after Patterson’s employment was terminated in 2017.
