Work continues towards finding a cure for ALS, and fundraising locally hits a high point Saturday with the annual Walk to Defeat ALS.
Organizer Kelly Bosak says there have been some hopeful developments, funded in large part by the highly-successful Ice Bucket Challenge from a decade ago.
ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, essentially destroys nerve and muscle function over time while leaving the brain intact. Bosak says more than 40 treatments and clinical trials have either been developed or are under development.
As usual, Jones Park will be the site. Registration begins at 8:30 am, with the walk starting at 9 am. Fundraising continues, and people wanting to raise funds can go online to als.org and search Events.
