Area counties largely bucked the statewide trend of slightly higher unemployment month-to-month in the latest report from the Kansas Department of Labor.
Emporia’s jobless rate dipped from 4.1 percent in July to 3.8 percent in August. Lyon County’s jobless rate had the same trend, from 4 percent to 3.8 percent.
Areawide, all area counties saw lower unemployment between July and August except for Morris County, which was flat at 3.3 percent. Wabaunsee County now has the area’s lowest unemployment rate at 3.2 percent. Coffey County has the highest at 4.8 percent.
Statewide, the jobless rate was 3.3 percent in August, above 3.2 percent recorded in July and 2.6 percent in August 2023.
