Moderate to heavy rainfall this past weekend helped drought conditions in some parts of the KVOE listening area.
Most of Greenwood County and far south Coffey County has crept into moderate drought, but those areas are now listed by the US Drought Monitor as abnormally dry, or the mildest level of drought on the agency scale.
Areas already listed as abnormally dry for the past several weeks — including north and south Lyon County, the southern halves of Chase and Coffey counties, most of Morris and Wabaunsee counties and the north half of Osage County — remain abnormally dry. For the KVOE signal territory, the only drought-free area is central Lyon, the north half of Chase and Coffey counties and the southern third of Osage County.
Area residents got anywhere from 1-3 inches of rainfall Friday night through early Monday.
