Homecoming is full of traditions for Emporia State University, and one of the most visible to the community is the Phi Delta Theta Pole Sit.
Activities take place Friday and Saturday at the intersection of 12th, Commercial and Kellogg Circle. Phi Delt Senior Chris Peine, KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 guest Thursday, says the intersection will be busier than normal.
The event begins at 6 am Friday and goes through 10 am Saturday. Pie-A-Phi goes from 8-11 am and 1-4 pm Friday, followed by an appearance on the pole by Mayor and KVOE Promotions Director Erren Harter at 2 pm Friday. The Art Walk Pole Sit Photo Challenge is from 5-8 pm Friday. A “bucket brigade” will collect donations at the intersection.
Funding benefits SOS as it has since the event started in 1986.
Meanwhile, the 50th annual Homecoming musical, “She Loves Me,” begins Thursday night at Bruder Theatre with performances Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Friday’s activity schedule also includes the Athletics Hall of Honor Lunch at 11 am, the Black and Gold Progressive Reception at 4:30 pm and Gala Dinner at 7 pm as well as the Bonfire and Hornet Rally at 8 pm. Saturday’s event list includes open houses, campus tours, the Homecoming parade at 10 am and the Homecoming football game against Northeastern State at 2 pm. Pregame will be at 1 pm on Mix 104.9 FM and the Hornet Sports Network.
