Time almost seemed to slow down for Chad “The Breadman” DeCrow Thursday morning when he entered the main room of his new storefront for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Breadman’s Bakery.
Thursday’s grand opening was just the latest moment in a long and winding journey for DeCrow that has seen many crucial stops and experiences including time at Flint Hills Technical College where studied in the culinary arts department for a time. FHTC President Dr. Caron Daugherty was in attendance for Thursday’s grand opening and says moments like this are what she and all leadership of FHTC wish for all their students past and present.
DeCrow’s journey is also linked closely with the Emporia Farmer’s Market where he has been a mainstay for several years now. Market Manager Trisha Fullerton spoke with KVOE News Thursday morning and says she hopes the opening of Breadman’s will be an inspiration to other vendors in the future.
Facilitating Thursday’s ribbon cutting was Emporia Main Street which also plays an important role in DeCrow’s journey as he was one of the first individuals to participate in the Show of Hands pitch competition where he first unveiled his vision for the bakery. Jessica Buchholz of Main Street says Thursday’s opening was made possible by so many factors, namely DeCrow’s genuine personality, determination and authenticity.
DeCrow expressed his appreciation for all who have helped him along the way and says the main ingredient in all of his products has been and will continue to be love. Based on the turnout, well wishes and outpouring of support shown Thursday, DeCrow says he will be well stocked with that ingredient for years to come.
Breadman’s Bakery, located at 509 Commercial, fills the space left by Vault Meats and Cheeses, which shared space with DeCrow in the past, and will offer a wide variety of breads as well as locally made foods, crafts, plants and more.
