An Emporia State Homecoming tradition did extremely well for its beneficiary last week.
The university’s Phi Delta Theta fraternity had its 39th annual Pole Sit on Friday and Saturday. This year’s goal was $10,000, which would have been a record — but the initial total is over $12,000. The funds go to SOS, and Executive Director Mickey Edwards says the Phi Delts “really knocked it out of the park.”
Edwards also credited Ryan and Stephanie Farley of Wichita, who matched the first $2,000 in online donations as part of this effort.
Pole Sit fundraising has nearly tripled since 2020, which had almost $4,300 generated. Last year’s event went over $7,600 for the first time.
Edwards says Pole Sit funding helps SOS offset a range of needs, including building insurance and workers compensation matters, as well as emergency client needs like rent or utility assistance, purchases of home goods and other victim services.
