Fire Prevention Week is coming to a close.
On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Emporia Fire Marshal Reason Bradford urged residents to have several smoke detectors sprinkled through their house.
With smoke detectors trending towards lithium batteries and away from traditional 9-volt batteries the last 10 years, Bradford suggests writing the purchase or installation date on the smoke detectors so you remember when they were activated. And with winter weather coming soon, Bradford urged residents to get their furnaces serviced as soon as possible, as well as fireplaces and chimneys.
Fire Prevention Week is ending as Emporia Fire investigates a destructive house fire at 909 Thompson from early Thursday. Click here for more information, including video from the scene.
More information about Fire Prevention Week is on the Emporia Fire Facebook page and on the National Fire Protection Association’s website, nfpa.org.
