USD 251 North Lyon County Board of Education members had a lot of good news to sift through during their regular meeting Wednesday evening.
That good news included an announcement from Superintendent Bob Blair that the district had received four Kansans Can Star Awards through the Kansas State Department of Education.
Blair says this makes 24 total star awards for the district in the last five years.
Also on a positive note, a review of the district’s headcount as of September 27 showed a total of 333 students for the district which is slightly above last year’s count of 332 and the 2022 count of 331. While not a drastic increase, Blair says this is still a very positive trend for the district noting flat numbers are always preferable to a significant drop-off.
Blair adds the district’s consistency is always a bonus when it comes to financial aid at the state level.
In other business Wednesday, board members discussed the district’s cell phone policies following an increase in discussions on the topic at both the state and national levels. Blair says following a brief discussion, board members found that the district’s current policies were sufficient to limit cell phone use during learning hours and no alterations were needed.
The USD 251 Board of Education will next convene in November.
