Part of Latin America came to Emporia on Saturday.
The third annual Empovia is based on what are called ciclovias in Central and South America. Visit Emporia Director LeLan Dains says residents could walk, bike, skateboard or rollerblade on parts of two Emporia streets that were blocked off specifically for the event.
Dains also founded Emporia Spanish Speakers, and he says Empovia serves both entities — and the city’s population — well.
In addition to enjoying the parts of South Neosho and Kansas streets for the transport side of the event, residents could enjoy a small car show, play cornhole, paint the blade of an Emporia snow truck, throw axes and race Zorb balls — otherwise known as human-sized hamster balls.
