The interior of a house had heavy damage and one person was hospitalized after a fire in south-central Emporia on Sunday.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Tony Fuller says the fire at 206 South Union was reported shortly after 11:30 am. As crews arrived, they found moderate smoke coming from the front and roof of the house. Fuller says crews got the fire under control quickly, but not before there was heavy fire damage to a back bedroom and smoke damage throughout the house.
One occupant was treated on the scene and later taken to Newman Regional Health for smoke inhalation. That person was treated and released.
The cause of this fire is currently being investigated. The origination point has not been listed.
Olpe Fire provided mutual aid. The Red Cross has provided aid for two of the three occupants.
This fire comes as Emporia Fire continues investigating the blaze that left the walls standing at 909 Thompson but destroyed basically everything inside the house Thursday. Nobody was home when that fire developed. The United Way of the Flint Hills says the Red Cross is offering assistance.
