An Emporia woman will spend time in prison after her sentence Wednesday in a Lyon County commercial sexual exploitation case.
Judge Jeff Larson sentenced Maria Trillo to 32 months in prison. Trillo also has lifetime sex offender registration and 60 months postrelease supervision as part of her sentence.
Trillo accepted an Alford guilty plea to one count of commercial exploitation of a child back in August. An Alford plea means a defendant maintains his or her innocence but recognizes there is enough evidence for a conviction.
Trillo and her husband, Jesus Mannuel Trillo-Hurtado, were both charged with exploitation and aggravated trafficking in early July for alleged with a child who was no more than 17 years old when the alleged crimes took place in 2016. Trillo-Hurtado has pleaded no contest to one count of conspiracy to commit commercial sexual exploitation last month and is awaiting his sentencing hearing Nov. 14.
