Slowly but surely, work continues to bring new water pipe to areas of northwest Emporia through the 24th and Prairie project.
The latest traffic adjustments include:
*Prairie Street closing to thru traffic from Hillcrest to 24th. 24th between Lincoln and Prairie, as well as Prairie north of the Hillcrest/24th intersections, will be open
*Work to install a 24-inch main continues along Prairie from Hillcrest to 12th, meaning a rolling closure of Prairie near the immediate work zone will continue. Driveway access will be maintained in general terms, although drieways may not be available at all times.
*Eighteenth at Prairie will be closed for up to three weeks as a six-inch water main is installed. This will lead to occasional lane reductions for southbound Prairie Street drivers between 18th and 15th.
All told, the city is installing close to 13,000 linear feet of new water mains ranging from six to 24 inches in diameter. Over 30 new service lines and appurtenances are also part of construction, which could still last into fall 2025.
