One person was hurt after an SUV hit a bicycle in southeast Emporia on Thursday.
The incident happened at Fourth and Exchange around 9:45 am, triggering a response by Emporia Police and Emporia Fire/EMS. Police Capt. Ray Mattas says 28-year-old Adela Castillo, hometown not listed, was southbound on Exchange and turning to head east on Fourth, while 80-year-old Antonio Montesino, hometown not listed, was pedaling westbound in the middle of Fourth Avenue. Castillo initially did not see Montesino but slowed down and, according to Mattas, almost made a complete stop before the crash.
Montesino was taken to Newman Regional Health for evaluation. There is no report of injuries to Castillo.
