Plans for a trash burn near Olpe changed quickly after the fire went out of control Sunday.
Olpe and Lyon County District 4, Emporia’s rural fire unit, responded to 847 Road M — about four miles northeast of Olpe — shortly before noon. Emporia Fire Capt. Michael Nunley says two trees caught fire as a result.
No injuries were reported. Winds were gusting as high as 25 mph while the fire was active.

Olpe and Emporia firefighters are working to extinguish a tree fire reported late Sunday morning.
Fire was reported in a tree row at 847 Road M, about four miles northeast of Olpe, shortly before noon. Olpe is the primary responding agency, with Lyon County District 4 — Emporia’s rural firefighting department — serving as backup.
