Thursday’s weather forecast went almost exactly as scripted — including a record high temperature and thunderstorms that brought light rain and isolated severe weather.
Thursday saw a high temperature of 92 degrees, easily besting the prior record of 86 degrees set in 2012.
A broken line of thunderstorms developed along a cold front by late afternoon. Those storms brought the following severe weather reports:
*1 mile west-northwest of Burlington: 60 mph wind gust
*5 miles north-northwest of Olpe: 58 mph wind gust
Rain totals were not impressive:
*KVOE studios: 0.20 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 0.22 inches
*Country Club Heights: 0.17 inches
Cooler, more seasonal temperatures are ahead. Friday will see a high near 70 degrees, while Saturday will have a high in the mid-60s. Temperatures will return to the low 80s by Monday.
