A lot of wind is coming to the KVOE listening area to start the week.
Southerly wind gusts could be between 40-50 mph areawide Monday and Tuesday, with gusts between 30-40 mph Monday night, Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Given the dry conditions with plants and low humidity levels expected, the National Weather Service has issued red flag warnings for Chase, Greenwood and Morris counties between 12-8 pm Monday. Wind advisories are up across the KVOE listening areas Monday and Tuesday:
*RED FLAG WARNING: Chase, Greenwood, Morris counties 12-8 pm Monday
*WIND ADVISORY: Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties 12-7 pm Monday and 9 am to 8 pm Tuesday
*WIND ADVISORY: Chase and Greenwood counties 9 am to 8 pm Monday and 12-7 pm Tuesday
Before the National Weather Service alerts, Chase County had announced a county-specific burn ban until at least Wednesday. It is currently the only area county to take that step, but outdoor burns are strongly discouraged and residents are urged to take extreme care with anything that could spark a fire.
Thunderstorms are also in the picture this week. Areas just west of the Kansas Turnpike are in a marginal severe weather risk for wind and hail Tuesday night. The entire KVOE listening area is in a slight severe weather risk for wind and hail Wednesday night.
Be sure to stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for updates on the fire danger and severe weather risk this week.
