Area fire crews were busy Monday thanks to the elevated fire danger across the area.
Lyon County Fire District 5, Hartford Neosho Rapids, was called out to Old Highway 50 and Dobbin Road around 2:30 pm to assist Coffey County fire with a grass fire. According to District 5 fire chief Greg Zumbrunn, the fire was a mile long when they arrived on scene.
As crews were battling that fire they were also called to assist Osage County with a fire at 325th and Valencia. According to Zumbrunn that blaze was knocked down quickly and was a rekindle from a fire Sunday that destroyed two barns.
No injuries were reported with either incident.
Mondays fires followed two grass fires from Sunday afternoon and evening which were handled by Emporia and Olpe fire crews. The fires also come with critical fire danger in place across the area through the early half of the work week due to high winds and dry conditions.
