Both the Kansas Turnpike Authority and Kansas Department of Transportation have approved contracts for work affecting segments of area roads.
Kansas Turnpike Authority
The KTA is planning for pavement surfacing between mile markers 96.3 and 112.3, or from near the Cassoday maintenance area to the Matfield Green service exit to the Flint Hills Cattle Pens exit. Pearson Construction LLC of Wichita won the contract with a bid of nearly $5 million.
Work is tentatively expected between early April and Halloween 2025.
Kansas Department of Transportation
Strong City will have work on Cottonwood Street from Fourth Street north to US Highway 50, or about a third of a mile of street work. Landscaping and beautification is planned. Killough Construction of Ottawa won the project with a nearly $875,000 bid.
This is separate from work approved by voters as part of a special election question in August. By a 2-to-1 margin, voters approved a one-percent sales tax for storm water drainage and street improvements.
Meanwhile, Burlington and points to the north will see a road sealing project. The work zone goes on US Highway 75 from near Burlington’s southern city limits to just north of the junction with Kansas Highway 58. Vance Brothers and Subsidiary of Kansas City, Missouri, bid almost $320,000 for the work.
