Given the five inches of rain at the KVOE studios since early Saturday and more rainfall likely Monday, it may seem strange the National Weather Service canceled a flood watch for Lyon and several surrounding counties. But Weather Service meteorologist Kyle Poage says the situation merits the decision.

*Americus: 4.25 inches
*South of Bazaar: 5.20 inches as of Sunday afternoon
*2 miles west of Burlingame: 4.50 inches
*Bushong: 3.46 inches
*Cottonwood Falls: 3.25 inches
*2 miles south of Emporia Municilap Airport: Over 4 inches (rain gauge has 4-inch maximum)
*Eureka Milliken Airport: 2.31 inches
*6 miles northwest of Gridley: 2 inches
*Between Hartford and Olpe: 4 inches since Wednesday
*Lamont: 2.60 inches
*Neosho Rapids: 3.55 inches
*Olpe: 5.50 inches
*5 miles southwest of Olpe: 3.30 inches
*Reading: 5.75 inches
*1600 block Road 170: 5.25 inches
*Thorndale: 4 inches
*Toledo: 4.22 inches
Despite the heavy rainfall totals from the weekend and the half-inch to 3 inches across the area from this past Wednesday, Lyon County’s road closure list is relatively short:
*Road 140 at J, both northbound and eastbound
*Road 140 at Kansas Highway 99, westbound
*Road 140 at K, both eastbound and westbound
*Road 150 from J to Kansas Highway 99; from P to R
*Road 240 at E, both eastbound and westbound
*Road P from 140 to 150
KVOE News has not been advised of any other road closures across our listening area.
The current forecast has rain ending early Tuesday, with the area staying dry until another chance of rain Thursday night through Saturday.
