Three members of the Emporia High baseball team celebrated their signings at the collegiate level on Wednesday at the EHS Library.
Owen Ruge signed to play at Butler Community College in El Dorado. Ruge talked about what stood out about going down the Kansas Turnpike to play in El Dorado.
As a junior, Ruge was a first-team All-Centennial League selection batting .323 with 20 hits, six doubles, three triples and 14 RBIs. On the mound, Ruge had an ERA of 1.54 with 49 strikeouts and four walks in 31 2/3 innings.
Madden Seidl signed to play at Cloud County Community College in Concordia. Seidl said the offseason was huge for him to gain offers from multiple colleges.
Seidl had a 3.90 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings as a junior.
Andrew Ruxton signed with MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe and talked about his decision to play at an NAIA school.
Ruxton was an honorable mention Centennial League selection as a junior batting .333 with 22 hits and 13 RBIs and had a 2.48 ERA on the mound.
Emporia High coach Anthony Markowitz said he’s fortunate that three of his players have signed to play at the next level.
Emporia High finished 2024 with a 9-15 record falling in the regional championship game to Salina South. The Spartans return a majority of their team for the 2025 season.
