Recent rainfall did alter drought conditions across the KVOE listening area, however, dry conditions are still present areawide.
According to the latest update from the US Drought Monitor, abnormally dry conditions, the lowest level on the monitor’s 5-point scale, are present for Lyon and almost all surrounding counties. The only exceptions are the northern half of Wabaunsee County, the northern tip of Morris County, and far south Greenwood County, which are all experiencing moderate drought.
This is a vast improvement for these areas as they were all in severe drought a week ago. More rounds of rainfall are expected between early Friday morning and the upcoming weekend with an additional 1-2 inches of accumulation possible.
