Flint Hills Technical College administrators say they will put a six-figure grant to good use with an existing program and one that’s taking root.
The college recently received a better than $670,000 grant from the Patterson Family Foundation. Part of that will help the college’s emerging Precision Agriculture program. On KVOE’s Tech Talk on Tuesday, Dean of Academic Affairs Kim Dhority says the grant announcement follows program approval by the Kansas Board of Regents this past summer — and several years of conversations before that.
Funding will help the college build a greenhouse, secure an instructor and purchase equipment like a drone.
Part will also help the evolving Commercial Driver’s License program. Corey Spikes, Executive Director of Business and Industry for Flint Hills Technical College, says this will help with staff and equipment.
Vice President of Advancement Mike Crouch says this reflects close to a year’s worth of discussions and other work.
Based in Kansas City, Missouri, the Patterson Family Foundation funds economic opportunity, education and health care programs serving rural counties in Kansas and Missouri.
