An Emporia man who accepted a plea agreement for conspiring to abuse a child will have probation as his sentence.
Jesus Mannuel Trillo-Hurtado received 24 months of probation after sentencing Thursday by Judge Lee Fowler and a finalized plea agreement on one count of conspiracy to commit commercial sexual exploitation of a child in September. Trillo-Hurtado also an underlying prison term of 13 months if he violates probation as well as a year of postrelease supervision.
Trillo-Hurtado’s wife and co-defendant, Maria Elena Trillo, was sentenced in October to 32 months in prison, lifetime sex offender registration and five years of postrelease supervision. While Trillo-Hurtado pleaded no contest to conspiracy, Trillo’s plea was an Alford plea to one count of commercial exploitation, meaning she maintained her innocence but acknowledged there was enough evidence to convict her.
The couple was accused of illegal contact with a child was who was up to 17 years old at the time of the crimes eight years ago.
