The Emporia High School theater will transform into Harvard Law School this week for the theatre department’s latest performance.
Legally Blonde the Musical will have three performances for the community to enjoy beginning Friday night and continuing through Sunday afternoon. Cast and crew members of the upcoming production joined KVOE’s Talk of Emporia Friday to preview the show and could barely contain their excitement.
Based on the film starring Reece Witherspoon, Legally Blonde the Musical tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at the prestigious Harvard Law School in an effort to win back the affections of her ex-boyfriend Warner. Music Director Sarah Bays says this is a big production and one the cast and crew have taken on with great enthusiasm.
Stage manager Izzy Cole says there are a lot of moving pieces and quick changes which takes tremendous coordination and communication to pull off.
Playing the lead role of Elle is EHS senior Alexa Courtney who says she was very excited when the production was announced.
Playing the role of Warner is David Dixon Ratzlaff who says he has enjoyed bringing more dimension to the character.
Linus Lingenfelter, an EHS junior, is making his first appearance on stage playing the role of Emmett a character he says he relates to quite well.
Playing the role of Paulette is EHS senior Cas Samples who says the role is a departure from some of her previous characters.
Show times will be at 7 pm both Friday and Saturday night with Sunday being a 2:30 pm matinee. The cost for tickets is $10 for adults and $5 for children and will only be available at the door.
In addition to the performances next week, the theatre department booster club will host a silent auction each evening and the department will host a community brunch from 10:30 am to noon Saturday. The cost is $10 for the brunch which includes pancakes and parfaits, an opportunity to meet the cast, nail treatments and more.
