A sales tax question could be approved for a special vote next spring following the Emporia City Commission’s regular meeting Wednesday.
As part of their action agenda, commissioners will consider a resolution authorizing and calling for the special question on March 4. If approved by local voters, a half-cent sales tax will be implemented on all retail goods beginning in July acting as the main funding source for a new Emporia recreation center.
Commissioners will also consider approving a final report from the Rec Center steering committee and an amendment to the memorandum of understanding for the Rec Center steering committee. A resolution authorizing an application for a $500,000 moderate-income housing grant and an ordinance granting a franchise to Zayo Group LLC. will also be considered.
Following a 10-minute executive session, commissioners will convene their regular study meeting during which time they will resume their discussions on a potential utility rate increase. A rebate agreement with CAMSO, January meetings, and a work order, asset management and notification system through Tyler Technologies will also see discussion.
The action meeting will begin at 11 am inside of the Municipal Courtroom followed by the study session in City Conference Room 1AB.
