Employees at Simmons Pet Food cranked up their support for the United Way of the Flint Hills.
Last year, employees donated around $10,000. A check presentation at the Emporia plant Wednesday revealed a total of over $51,000. Spokesperson Brenda Coburn says she had conversations with plant management about ways to increase donations.
United Way Executive Director Daphne Mertens says this is a huge donation as the annual fundraising campaign gets into the holiday season.
Coburn says the plan now is to increase annual giving to the United Way, although it may be more incremental in years to come.
More information about the campaign is online at unitedwayflinthills.org or the United Way Flint Hills Facebook page.
