USD 253 Emporia and Sacred Heart Catholic School have a special field trip for fifth-grade students planned for Monday.
All fifth-grade students will be spending the majority of their day at White Auditorium watching the Emporia State Lady Hornet Basketball team in action. The special field trip is a partnership between Emporia State and local schools that has been in the works for some time now according to ESU Senior Associate Athletics Director in charge of External Relations Darian Westerfield.
Westerfield adds a basketball game is the perfect setting for an experience like this.
In addition to the basketball game against Ottawa Univeristy, students will enjoy a boxed lunch and halftime entertainment that will include some “fun games” featuring school principals. Students will be seated on the pull-out bleachers on the auditorium floor.
For season ticket holders or other fans planning to attend the game their normal seats will still be available. The tipoff for Monday’s game is set for noon.
