Jury trial is set to begin next week for an Emporia man charged with child rape in Sedgwick County.
Trial for John Robert Burton is set to start Dec 2 in Wichita and follows a motion hearing earlier this month. Motion details have not posted to the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal, but the case has been sealed since it was filed in June 2023.
Burton faces single counts of rape and aggravated indecent liberties involving a child under the age of 14. Trial was tentatively supposed to begin in September but was delayed with Burton’s approval.
